World Read Aloud Day Virtual Visit
Join me in celebrating World Read Aloud Day on February 3, 2021!
WHAT IS WORLD READ ALOUD DAY & WHY CELEBRATE?
According to the Litworld website: "LitWorld founded WorldRead Aloud Day in 2010 in celebration of the power of reading aloud to create community, to amplify new stories, and to advocate for literacy as a foundational human right. Over the last eleven years, World Read Aloud Day has evolved into a global movement of millions of readers, writers, and listeners from communities all across the world coming together to honorthe joy and power of reading and sharing stories, and continue expanding the definition and scope of global literacy."
Each year, authors and illustrators celebrate by virtually dropping into classrooms across the globe! This year, I'm joining the fun!
FORMAT: WRAD visits will be simple, short, and sweet, and will typically follow the below format:
Each year, authors and illustrators celebrate by virtually dropping into classrooms across the globe! This year, I'm joining the fun!
FORMAT: WRAD visits will be simple, short, and sweet, and will typically follow the below format:
- 1-2 minutes: I'll introduce myself and talk a little about my books.
- 3-5 minutes: I'll read my poem and share my illustrations from FRIENDS & ANEMONES: OCEAN POEMS FOR CHILDREN. I'll also read a short excerpt from my forthcoming debut, creative nonfiction picture book with Sally Wern Comport titled, 30,000 STITCHES: THE INSPIRING STORY OF THE NATIONAL 9/11 FLAG. This story releases in May 2021, and you will be one of the first to get a sneak peek! More info about my books can be found here.
- 5-10 minutes: I'll answer questions from students about reading/writing or topics related to my books.
- 1-2 minutes: I'll share a couple books I love (but didn’t write/illustrate) as recommendations for students and teachers.
