MOONLIGHT MEMORIES tells the story of a young girl who is dealing with the loss of a loved one and finds comfort and healing through creativity. This story holds a special place in my heart as it was inspired by my own personal experience with loss. At a young age, my father passed away. After his death, I was unsure of how to cope with this unexpected loss. It wasn’t until I found art and writing that I was able to fully process the thoughts and emotions surrounding his death. I found my outlet. I found my voice. I soon realized that my father would always live on through the memories I was creating with my words and visuals. To this day, I find comfort in creativity.
I’m thrilled to work with the amazing team at WorthyKids again and partner with artist, Michelle Jing Chan who brought the story to life through her stunning illustrations. I hope the story provides comfort and solace to any child (or adult) who may be coping with the absence of a loved one.

Praise for Moonlight Memories
“A hug from a book…This book is a love letter to those experiencing a profound loss. This book found its way to our family soon after the loss of my sister. There’s a sweetness in looking to the sky and processing through art. The words are heartwarming and the images are enchanting. This is one we’ll read over again.” — Tiffany G.
“There’s so much to love about Moonlight Memories! I love the touching, eye-moistening story, inspired by the author’s loss of her own father when she was young. I love the gorgeous illustrations that draw readers into the sensitive story. And I love the beautiful writing and word choice in the tender narrative…I’m sure Moonlight Memories will touch the hearts of many children (and adults) who have lost a loved one. Also highly recommended for classroom use, especially if a classmate is dealing with grief.” —Joyce E.
“We follow Piper through her journey of coping with her mother’s death. This picture book capture’s a child’s point of view and struggle. The beautiful art make the text shine. An ideal book for a child coping with loss but also appropriate for kids who are not because it gives them a glimpse into the pain and emotions, and, hopefully, an avenue for understanding and conversation if a friend is going through something similar. A book with meaning and heart.”
— Chris V.
“Moonlight Memories is just not for grieving children, it is for all of us who has or is in the middle of a horrific loss. Amanda’s words lead the reader to find beauty in our own way regarding those who are no longer with us. Personally, since March I have lost two dogs of 14 & 13 years, leaving a huge hole and an uncomfortable quietness in my home. Instead of Piper’s telescope I had my camera with a million images of them making an iMovie — my scratch book. Amanda’s work could not have come at a better time. I encourage all to read Moonlight Memories, it will to transition the gap of loss.”
— John S.
“Moonlight Memories will help heal the heart of anyone experiencing the loss of a parent. This story is a must have for all caregivers, parents, counselors, teachers, etc.”
— Heather S.
“Moonlight Memories is a beautiful and heartfelt book. As someone who lost a parent, it deeply resonated with me. Accompanied by the stunning illustrations by Michelle Jing Chan, this story is poetic while discussing what the main character, Piper, is going through as she navigates her grief. With her father’s support, Piper is able to process some of these difficult feelings through her drawings and observations of the moonlit sky. This book can be another resource for young children experiencing loss or grappling to understand grief. At the end of the book, there is a note to parents and caregivers by Hannah Harriman, MMFT. It includes important reminders about how grief can appear differently for every child and activities parents and children can work on together to process it. Moonlight Memories deserves a spot on your bookshelf.”
— Carmen B.
